Fennel (Bulb)
Fennel has a rich history, its name originating from the Greek word for ‘marathon’ because it grew in the field on which the Battle of Marathon between the Greeks and Persians was fought in 490 B.C. Fennel was revered by the Romans and Greeks for its culinary and medical properties, and still plays an important role in the food culture of many European nations today. This versatile vegetable is cultivated for its bulb, stalk, leaves and seeds – all of which are edible and add a fresh, slightly sweet, liquorice or aniseed flavour to dishes.
Seasonal Availability
Fennel is available all year round.
