Daikon radish

The daikon radish, also known as large white radish or mooli, is a Japanese radish that is white, almost translucent and carrot shaped. The word daikon actually comes from two Japanese words: dai (meaning large) and kon (meaning root).

 

Daikon radishes are grown in Japan and also in the United States in Texas and California.

 

Although daikon radishes can be eaten raw, in Japan, where they have been cultivated for many years, they are served either pickled or preserved. It is mild, crunchy and a versatile ingredient.

Daikon radish is available year round in Asian specialty stores.

One cup of cooked daikon radish slices (100g) provides one serving of vegetables.
